Iowa’s bonus points The difference with the state of Iowa in a 5-5 split

Iowa defeated Iowa State 18-15 after each team won five games. Bonus points were the difference for the Hawkeyes as they picked up key decisions from Spencer Lee, Cobe Siebrecht and Nelson Brands. That duel also marked Spencer Lee’s season debut, starting at 125 pounds.

Swiderski becomes a bit more offensive in the second minute, but both feel each other out. Woods shoots with 50 seconds remaining but Swiderski counters. Stall against Swiderski by 30 seconds. No result in the first third.

Second section: Swiderski discards. Woods flattened Swiderski in the first minute. A second stall warning gives Woods the first point of the game with 27 seconds left. Woods rides out Swiderski all the time and leads 1-0.

Third period: Woods hits the ground and escapes for a 2-0 lead in seven seconds. Swiderski turns behind a shot from Woods and scores a takedown for a 2-2 level, but an escape makes it 3-2 with a minute to go. Swiderski attempts a couple of shots but fails to score. Woods wins, 4-2, with driving time.

First Period: Johnson has a shot with 2:10 to go but Murin counters and the stalemate ensues. Many hand fights in the second minute. More handfights lead to a scoreless first period.

Second Stage: Murin chooses the ground and escapes in six seconds. Johnson shoots late but fails to convert. Murin leads, 1-0.

Third Period: Johnson decides to go down and stands up, but Murin keeps him on the mat as they go out with 1:33 to go. Johnson eventually escapes to make it 1-1. No goal for the rest of the game.

Sudden win: Johnson shoots with 45 seconds left but Murin counters. Johnson hits a sweep single on the buzzer for a 3-1 win.

First period: Siebrecht hits a top leg throw for a toe-to-back takedown and a 6-0 lead after Kraisser recovers. Kraisser escapes 18 seconds before the end, but Siebrecht takes a 6-1 lead.

Second section: Kraisser starts from the bottom and escapes in 20 seconds to cut the lead to 6-2. Kraisser gets a shot, but Siebrecht comes out the back door in a frantic scramble as the two flutter around until a stalemate is called.

Third section: Siebrecht lays down and Kraisser puts his leg in. He seems committed to the ride for now. Siebrecht stands up, Kraisser lets him go and a few seconds later Siebrecht scores a takedown to lead 9:2. Kraisser almost escapes, but Siebrecht holds on to the 10:2 major decision with driving time.

First Period: No goals one minute into the game. Low shot but Carr converts for a takedown with 1:05 remaining Kennedy escapes immediately to make it 2-1. Carr converts a head-out shot for another takedown and a 4-1 lead at the break.

Second period: Carr decides to go down and immediately escapes for a 5-1 lead. Sweep single from Carr converts for his third takedown and a 7-1 lead. Kennedy escapes with 15 seconds to go, cutting the lead to 7-2.

Third period: Kennedy starts from the bottom and escapes to 7-3. Carr hits a single and scores with 20 seconds left, giving up the run for a 9-4 lead. The drive time gives Carr a 10-4 win.

First period: Brands scores an out of bounds, then puts Gaitan back in limits and the body locks him up for two nearfalls and a 4-0 lead. Gaitan escapes. It’s 4-1. Brands goes toe to back for a takedown but Gaitan escapes. It’s 6-2 brands. Gaitan scores a takedown and escapes for a wild first period that ends with Brands leading 7-4.

Second period: Gaitan decides to go down and escapes, but Brands still leads, 7-5. Brands goes toe to back and almost falls, but only the takedown counts. Brands leads, 9-5. Brands commits to the ride and forcefully brings Gaitan back to the mat at the end of the period.

Third period: Brands opts down and escapes for a 10-5 lead. Brands hits a single and switches to a double for another takedown and a 12-5 lead. He rides Gaitian for the remainder of the period for a 13-5 major decision with ride time.

First third: No goal after a minute. Assad hits a singles with 1:17 to go but a stalemate is declared with 58 seconds to go. No value.

Third period: Assad dials down and escapes in 26 seconds. It’s a draw, 1-1. Assad hits his third shot, but this time Coleman counters for a takedown and a 3-1 lead. An escape from Assad makes it 3-2 and Coleman holds on while Assad gives chase. Coleman wins, 3-2.

Second section: Cassioppi starts down and immediately escapes to lead 3-0. Cassioppi hits a brace and comes high on the belly for another takedown and a 5-0 lead. Cassioppi was beaten for standing his ground at the top, which is his first warning. He rides out the third and holds his 5-0 lead.

Third period: Schuyler with a shot and scores a takedown to reduce the lead to 5-2 after locking a cradle. Cassioppi escapes 6-2 with a minute to go. A takedown and a drive time make it 9-2.
