A Seattle woman who killed her friend in the passenger seat in 2012 after she was involved in an accident in her car while under the influence of alcohol has been arrested again for drunk driving – this time just a mile from the scene of the accident.
Maria Guadalupe Hill was taken into custody on November 15 after the Washington State Patrol stopped her while driving northbound on I-5, which stretches from the Mexican border to the Canadian border along the entire west coast of the United States .
She had been driving at 28 miles per hour in a 60-mile zone on the interstate and had also veered off her lane near the Columbian Way exit in the South Seattle neighborhood.
The suspect was handcuffed after failing on-site sobriety tests and blowing a .175 on an alcohol detection device.
She was eventually charged with a DUI offense.

In 2012, Hill was convicted of vehicular homicide DUI, which killed her friend Valerie Cartillar, 33, after she drove the wrong way on I-5 in downtown Seattle before hitting her car head-on with a pickup truck collided.
According to Komo News, Cartillar was killed instantly, but the pickup driver and Hill sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the wreckage.
The driver’s blood alcohol content was 0.21, according to a 2012 police report. She confessed to Washington State Police that she had been drinking before taking the wheel. Cartillar was a passenger on the way home to Covington.
Hill was sentenced to five years in prison later that same year.

“Despite this conviction and the tragic death of your passenger, [Hill] is disabled again on Interstate 5. She poses a significant risk to the safety of the community,” King County Attorney Adam Eucker said in a court affidavit obtained by Komo News.
Last week a judge granted Hill’s release but with certain conditions related to her drinking, driving and being under electronic home surveillance.
The suspects’ trial date for their latest DUI case is set to take place in February 2023.
Hill was also arrested once for drunk driving in 2003.
‘[Hill] is unable or unwilling to control her drinking and poses a serious threat to the community because she has traded one addiction for another,” a King County prosecutor said of the 2012 indictments.
