Controversy hit The Masked Singer when Rudy Giuliani was revealed to be the Jack in the Box in the final competitor of Fox’s singing competition on Wednesday, and one judge in particular was clearly displeased.
Giuliani’s unmasking was long-awaited when the filming of his exit episode made headlines back in February. For his final song, the former mayor of New York City and a member of former President Donald Trump’s legal team performed “Bad to the Bone” while being unmasked.
The show’s judges seemed stunned by the revelation, and Nicole Scherzinger quietly asked, “Is that Robert Duvall?” which prompted Ken Jeong to bluntly reply, “No, that’s not Robert Duvall.”
Robin Thicke said with a smile, “I definitely never would have thought that.”
Presenter Nick Cannon told the contestant: “Mr. Giuliani, with all the controversy surrounding you right now, it surprises us all that you’re here with The Masked Singer.”
The politician replied: “Me too!” before explaining: “I think the main reason is that I just had a granddaughter Grace and I want her to know that you should try everything, even things totally unlike you.” and unlikely.”
Jeong was seen with his arms crossed and his face straight as Giuliani spoke. After Giuliani started singing his farewell performance, Jeong was heard saying, “I’m done,” and then left the set. Scherzinger and Jenny McCarthy danced along to the song.
In February, TV critic Daniel Fienberg of published an essay titled “Rudy Giuliani” about “The Masked Singer” is a new low for TV picture washing, writing among other things: “The Masked Singer booked a man, who was the public face of an unsuccessful attempt to overturn a democratic election.” Fienberg continued, “There is a narrative of very active shame associated with Giuliani, not past tense shame. And the producers of Masked Singer and Fox felt like they wanted to be part of the money laundering process for him.”
