At least 11 people died in an explosion at a mosque in the Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif. 32 wounded were taken to a local hospital, provincial health director Najibullah Tawana told the dpa news agency. The background to the explosion in the city of the former Bundeswehr site is still unclear. A Taliban official confirmed the explosion and casualties at the Shiite mosque in the center of the city.

There were also explosions in the capital Kabul and in the northern province of Kunduz, with injuries. According to a police spokesman, at least two children are among the victims in Kabul. The explosive device detonated on the median of a street in the Dasht-e-Barchi district, which is predominantly inhabited by Shiites. So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Already on Tuesday there was a devastating attack on a school in the capital Kabul, in which many people were killed. Local reports spoke of up to 25 deaths, but authorities did not provide precise information.
