“Putin has said very clearly that what worries him and what he wants to oppose is the development of democratic systems in areas that he believes are under his direct control.” Professor Sabino Cassese recalls this as a guest in Connection with Francesco Magnani during the episode of “L’aria che tira” on Thursday April 21st, the political talk show that airs in the morning on La7.
The former judge of the Constitutional Court recalled the prophetic words of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, pronounced at the United Nations Assembly in 2015 on the occasion of the organization’s 70th anniversary. “He’s not fighting against Ukraine, he said that very clearly seven years ago, he’s fighting against the expansion of democratic systems in the world,” emphasizes the lawyer.
Magnani is asking for comments on the strong words of European Council President Charles Michel, who, along with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said in Kyiv that Europe’s goal is to lead Ukraine to victory, as if to make believe that Europe takes part in the war, or at least does so by proxy. “It is natural for the President of an institution inspired by democratic principles, see Article 6 and Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union, to make these very harsh statements,” concludes Cassese.
