Moldova wary after missile found near Ukraine

Moldova’s government initially expressed reservations about a part of the rocket found on its own territory near the Ukrainian border. “I have been informed that border guards have found part of a rocket near Briceni,” Prime Minister Natalia Gavriliţa said today, according to local media. The site area, just a few kilometers from the Ukrainian border, has been cordoned off. The incident is being investigated by authorities.

Russia had already launched another massive rocket attack against Ukraine as part of its war of aggression, which has been ongoing since February. According to its own statements, the Ukrainian air defense system shot down more than 80% of more than 70 Russian missiles. Rocket fragments had already landed on Moldovan territory in a similar attack in late October. In November, two Poles were killed near the border by a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile.

Gavrilița did not comment on the origin of the missile debris. However, she generally pledged her support to the Ukrainian people and condemned Russian rocket attacks on civilian objects.
