A box of human heads intended for medical research was stolen from a truck used to transport body parts in Denver, and police are currently looking for both the thief and the horribly stolen items.
The truck was parked along 23rd Avenue in the city’s Central Park neighborhood around 11 a.m. Thursday when someone broke into the truck and took the cart and crate of human remains. News Fox21 reported.
The human heads were in a blue and white cardboard box measuring approximately 20 x 15 x 18 inches, with the label “Science Care” scrawled on the sides, referring to the body and body parts donation program used to improve scientific research and education.
Authorities said the human heads were being sent for use in medical research. It is not clear if the thief realized he was stealing, or if officials would still be able to use the heads if they were found but not kept in a refrigerator.
The heads were stolen from a van parked at this intersection in Denver.
Local resident Isaac Fields, who moved to the normally safe and residential area about three years ago, told a news outlet that he takes his dog Margo to a dog park where human heads are stolen almost every day.
“Pretty shocking. I guess there aren’t too many weird things going on around here, but you know you’ll never know,” Fields said.
‘Blimey! I would be so scared.
“Well, my wife is actually doing her Ph.D. research at the University of Colorado Anschutz,” Fields added.
Science Care was under the protection of heads and was intended for medical research.
“So corpses are definitely used in certain situations. And I guess that’s probably what it was.
Authorities were unable to provide more information about the stolen appendages, but confirmed that the investigation into the strange crime is still active and ongoing.
Meanwhile, neighbors in the area are wondering if the thief in question was aiming at human heads or simply grabbing the first object he saw, locals told Fox21 News.
No arrests had been made as of Saturday, authorities said.
Science Care, which advertises its body donation services online, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
