Although Brazil barely broke a sweat against South Korea on Monday, Croatia had to go to penalties with Japan to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
The two winners will go head-to-head on Friday (10am ET on FOX and the FOX Sports App).

Croatia 1 (3), Japan 1 (1)
Japan proved to be tough opponents for Croatia in the 90 minutes of regular time and the 30 minutes of extra time.
However, when it came time to execute penalties, Japan appeared to have stepped out of their comfort zone, missing three of their four attempts. It was a heartbreaking end to Samurai Blue’s incredible run.

Brazil 4, South Korea 1
Perhaps South Korea was not the best litmus test for Brazil in the round of 16. But make no mistake: nothing about the way Brazil have progressed through their four games suggests they are unable to maintain their dominance, especially with Neymar back in the squad.
Croatia must be much better than they were against Japan if they don’t want to be the last spectators at the Brazilian carnival.

Japan haven’t exactly put Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livaković to the test, but you can only deflect the shots that get in your way and Livaković scored three of Japan’s four penalties on Monday.

Richarlison has the goal of the tournament so far, and he might have picked second-best Monday. Unlike his brilliant self-volley in the group stage, however, Richarlison’s goal against South Korea was a total team effort – joga bonito at its finest – making it the goal AND the assist of the day.

It’s not every day managers celebrate with their team, let alone Samba, but Brazil coach Tite couldn’t help himself as his team won 3-0.

A win against a closely-knit Swiss side could bring Cristiano Ronaldo & Co. into the conversation.
