Presidential leaders of the ruling Panamanian party prepare strategies

According to the newspaper, the actions of the Vice President of the Republic, José Gabriel Carrizo; and the President of the National Assembly, Crispiano Adames, to reach the Palacio de las Garzas (Seat of the Executive).

Joining these two PRD members, without having announced their intention to run for office, are former President Martin Torrijos (2004-2009) and businessman Anel Flores, the latter with a close friendship with the MP and President of the PRD, Benicio Robinson, the newspaper added.

The plans call for them to compete for the candidacy of the political organization, which has already announced that primary elections will be held on June 11, 2023.

Within this group, Carrizo stands out as the most promoted and his candidacy would have the support of Head of State Laurentino Cortizo, who recently declared it publicly and to this day has given him the confidence to deal with highly relevant issues within the government gear.

The leader of the unicameral parliament, Adames, is also touring the neighborhoods and meeting with other MPs, with a clear desire to reach the top leadership of the Central American country in two years’ time.

Another beginning to move his chips, the paper added in an editorial, is former President Torrijos, who has been spotted on some tours of the interior exploring the political terrain.

They also single out businessman Flores as another candidate, who resigned from the PRD in 2013 for election patronage, he asserted, but later re-registered.

According to some PRD leaders consulted on the matter, Flores, Adames and Mario Barletta are the cards played by the party’s president, Benicio Robinson, in this contest.

On May 5, 2024, the elections to be held by Panamanians will determine the country’s new president and vice-president, 20 deputies of the Central American Parliament, 71 deputies of the National Assembly, 81 mayors, 701 corregimiento deputies and 11 mayors, all with their respective deputies for the Period from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2029.
