Cowboys concerned about potential signing of Odell Beckham Jr. after visit: report

The Dallas Cowboys reportedly have some doubts about adding free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to their offense following his tour of the team’s facility.

The Cowboys have some concerns about Beckham’s physical condition as his recovery from a cruciate ligament rupture “isn’t far enough to ensure he would play until mid-January,” according to ESPN.

Beckham’s visit was highly anticipated for Dallas, who many believe is the frontrunner to sign. After the official visit and tour of the Cowboys facility, he was spotted with Micah Parsons and cornerback Trevon Diggs on the sidelines of the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center.

You could even hear Dallas fans chanting “OBJ.”

Beckham also had a visit to his former New York Giants, where head coach Brian Daboll said things went well. However, no details emerged.

“We had dinner with him last night,” Daboll said last Friday. “We had a good visit. Really, otherwise I have nothing to add. My focus is on Washington and any questions about that are really what I have to say.”

The Buffalo Bills were also expecting Beckham at the weekend.

A key point of each visit was that Beckham didn’t coach for any team, which Cowboys owner Jerry Jones admitted and made him nervous.

“Well, I’m not at all confident. So that’s the problem,” Jones said during his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. “Now we all realize that this health issue, this availability issue, is here every time. Only this one is very obvious and very much indicative of his injury which happened in the Super Bowl last year. So we have a good addition, we have a great read about his career.

“It’s not like a draft pick coming your way. We’ve got a lot of history here, and you’re looking at it all closely. Not only the obvious, and that is his achievement, but also all the health issues. So, all of that, we have to come in with our eyes open, and it has to be addressed, and then see if you can make a deal or not.

Every team interested in Beckham faces different situations when chasing for the playoffs.

The Cowboys have proven they can drive up the scoreboard over the past few weeks, putting up 54 against the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday. If Beckham can play, he’s just another weapon for Dak Prescott to wield alongside CeeDee Lamb, Micahel Gallup, Dalton Schultz, Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott. They are chasing the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East but are expected to be a top wildcard team if the rankings stay the same.

In the case of the Bills, Josh Allen already has a silky smooth connection with Stefon Diggs, which came into its own as they bid for another AFC East title. Adding Beckham to the mix with Isaiah McKenzie, Gabriel Davis, Dawson Knox and Devon Singletary would give them an edge and we’ve seen what Allen can do in the playoffs.

The Giants desperately need a receiver. Beckham’s workload would likely be heavy on Daboll and Mike Kafka’s offensive schedule, giving Daniel Jones an experienced receiver capable of working in short, middle and deep field. However, if Beckham wants a safe playoff appearance, the Cowboys or Bills would be better choices.

In the end, it comes down to availability and the Cowboys seem a bit skeptical about him signing anytime soon.
