L’Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is getting closer and closer: from May 10th to 14th, 40 artists from just as many European countries will compete on the stage of the Pala Olimpico in Turin. Thanks to the Måneskin’s victory in 2021, the competition lands in Italy for the third time in its long history. Among the most anticipated guests of the event Diodato.
Diodato’s bid on Rg1
The singer from Taranto announced it live during Tg1 on the evening of April 20th: it will be he who will sing during the premiere semifinals Eurovision on May 10th. These are his words: “We are approaching a very important event and Rai is involved this year, very involved, which is why I wanted to say it right here: I will be a guest at Eurovision 2022 on May 10th. We are many Italians on this stage and it’s nice that Italian music travels so much and I’m happy to be part of this musical flow in some way.
Diodato then spoke about what music is capable of to merge people, beyond conflicts divide the countries. Especially in a historical moment like the one we are going through, made up of difficulties due to the pandemic and dramatic events like the war between Russia and Ukraine. “An event like Eurovision represents precisely this power to amplify the messages of music, break down barriers and unite peoples. Carrying a message of peace and strong humanity, which is even more important at a moment like this,” the singer said.
Diodato and the failure of Eurovision 2020
An occasion, namely his participation as a guest at the Eurovision Song Contest, really unique for Diodato. Winner of the Sanremo Festival 2020 with Make Noise, the artist has never had the opportunity to perform on this stage, although he was entitled to it: shortly after the event in Sanremo, in fact, the Pandemic Covid-19 forced the whole world to stop and of course the competition was canceled as well. For this reason, Diodato will sing the festival’s winning song, which Europe couldn’t hear two years ago.
