Babyganics is recalling due to possible bacterial contamination

Babyganics has issued a voluntary recall of two products due to possible bacterial contamination, according to the company and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The San Francisco-based company said internal testing found that two batches of Babyganics 20 oz. Chamomile verbena bubble bath contained the bacterium Pluralibacter gergoviae.

The products have been sold at select US retailers for the past two months, the company said in a statement, adding that tests had not shown and other products were contaminated.

The company said the bacterium doesn’t usually make healthy people sick, but it could pose a risk of infection for those who are immune-compromised or have irritated skin like diaper rash. Infants can be more susceptible than adults.

The affected products are Babyganics 20 oz. Chamomile verbena bubble bath UPC 8 13277 01375 4 with lot codes Y314 and Y315 found at the bottom of the package, the FDA said.

“We take any risk very seriously, which is why we are voluntarily recalling these bottles from retailers and asking consumers to determine if they can buy the affected Babyganics 20 oz. have chamomile verbena bubble bath product in their home,” the company said online, providing instructions for users to see if they have the product in question.

The company said it would provide users with a refund and urged them to discard any remaining products immediately. No injuries were reported.
