Florida police arrested two women accused of mixing marijuana in food served to guests at a wedding reception in February. Fiancee Danya Shea Svoboda, 42, and catering woman Joycelyn Montrinice Bryant, 31, have been charged with gross negligence, supplying marijuana and violating Florida’s antitampering law.

According to the police, several guests felt ill and even had to be hospitalized after eating the food mixed with the drug. One of the guests told police he was “so drugged that he had a hard time using his phone to order a car via an app” to take him to the hospital.

However, according to authorities, none of the diners said they consented to having marijuana in their meal that night. Another partygoer, identified as Miranda Cady, told police she ate a loaf of bread with herb sauce and felt nauseous, like her heart stopped. The woman said she asked the caterer if there was marijuana in the food.

According to Miranda, Joycelyn laughed and said she nodded in agreement. According to police, tests found marijuana in the bodies of guests who felt ill. Also, according to police, the groom said he was unaware of the adulteration of food.

Medical marijuana is legal in Florida, but recreational use remains prohibited. The two women were released after posting bail. They are due to appear in court on June 7.
