Latvian Parliament: Russia Commits Genocide

The Latvian parliament unanimously passed a resolution accusing Russia of genocide against the Ukrainian people. MEPs also called on EU member states to stop importing Russian oil and gas immediately in the declaration adopted today in Riga.

In the statement, Parliament referred to “extensive testimonies and evidence of brutal mass crimes committed by the Russian army”. Among them are murder, torture, sexual abuse and desecration of Ukrainian civilians in Bucha, Irpin, Mariupol and elsewhere. Russia is also kidnapping and deporting Ukrainian citizens to its territory, he said.

On February 24, the Russian army launched a war of aggression against the neighboring country. After the partial withdrawal of Russian troops from areas of northern Ukraine, hundreds of bodies, some of them tied up, of dead civilians were discovered. Ukraine and the United States have accused Russia of genocide. The International Criminal Court in The Hague has launched investigations. Russia firmly rejects the allegations.
