American gymnast doctor Nassar’s victims demand compensation from the FBI

White said he could not name the 13 victims at this point in the legal process. Since the summer of 2017, Nassar has been sentenced to prison terms of up to 175 years in a total of three trials for his criminal assaults, including against minors. He pleaded guilty to sexually abusing several girls. Hundreds of gymnasts and his parents have sued him, including Olympic champions Simone Biles, Alexandra Raisman and McKayla Maroney.

$380 million

In late 2021, an Indianapolis court awarded Nassar victims $380 million in damages after a multi-year legal battle between the U.S. Gymnastics Federation and the National Olympic and Paralympic Committees, on the one hand, and the victims, for another. According to US media, the sum covered claims by “hundreds of women”. Efforts are now being made to hold the government accountable as well.

Biles, Raisman and Maroney made serious allegations against the FBI and the sports associations involved in a US Congressional hearing in September 2021. Among other things, they complained that the FBI had not followed up on their tips for a long time and was therefore partially guilty that Nassar could abuse many other girls. A 2021 report by the US Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General also concluded that the FBI mishandled Nassar’s sexual abuse allegations, allowing him to take further action. White clarified that Biles, Raisman and Maroney are not among the 13 women he represents.
