Prince Harry, Meghan Markle: Australians criticize “boring” Netflix series

As the world reacts to Harry and Meghan’s Netflix documentary series, high-profile Australians share their thoughts on the first three episodes.

The show has so far explored the love story of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, their feud with the British press and their journey to Megxit in 2020.

Future episodes are expected to contain harmful slurs about the royal family.

Despite the hype surrounding the series – which Netflix reportedly paid $100 million for – Australian journalists have so far dismissed it as “dull” and “boring”.

Latika Bourke of the Sydney Morning Herald called it boring, boring, boring. Channel Seven and 3AW entertainment reporter Peter Ford said it was “going in circles”.

Sharp-tongued gossip columnist Andrew Hornery said he was “bored” with the first episode and stopped watching after 15 minutes, adding that he was stunned by the press coverage of the series.

‘Bored. Last 15 minutes. How broken is our society for this to be THE greatest story? Ukraine, Iran, Qatar, China, Trump, Klima…even poor Celine [Dion] are surely more worthy subjects?’ he wrote.

Broadcaster Meshel Laurie noted the irony of Meghan and Harry complaining about press intrusion while selling details of their personal lives to the highest bidder.

“If Meg wanted privacy she should have stayed with Suits because I had never heard of her or her before,” she wrote on Instagram.

However, Harry & Meghan had some fans Down Under, and former MAFS star Jules Robinson told her 745,000 Instagram followers that she “loves it”.

Netflix describes the series as “an unprecedented six-part documentary that explores the span of their relationship, from the couple’s early days of courtship to the challenges that led them to retire from the royal family.”

It comes after radio host Ben Fordham unleashed a scathing attack on the Netflix docuseries, saying the trailers were “riddled with editing tricks and misleading scenes”.

The series includes interviews with family and friends “who have never spoken publicly about the couple’s relationship before,” as well as historians and journalists who discuss the media’s impact on the couple.

“So we have false claims, photos that have no connection to the royal family, videos that have no connection to Harry and Meghan and images that have been taken out of context,” he said on his 2GB radio program on Wednesday morning .

Fordham told listeners that a scene in the trailer shows footage of paparazzi surrounding a car as Harry laments the pain and suffering of women marrying into the royal family and grapples with the media’s “feeding frenzy.”

But the footage didn’t include Harry, Meghan, or “once a member of the royal family,” according to Fordham.

The first three episodes of Harry & Meghan were released on Netflix on Thursday December 8th and the last three will be released on December 15th
