According to the New York Times, Jill Biden has hinted to Emmanuel Macron that her husband wants to run again in 2024

Joe Biden is set to announce soon whether he intends to run for a second term as President of the United States. According to the New York Times, his wife Emmanuel Macron said he intends to do so.

Joe Biden wants to be re-elected President of the United States. At least that’s what his wife Jill Biden Emmanuel Macron said during his state visit to Washington last week, two people “with knowledge of the discussion” to the “New York Times”.

American media reports that the scene took place during the state dinner at the White House last Thursday. The US and French Presidents and their wives shared a table with others including US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Jill Biden then opens up a conversation about how “fitness helps her clear her head, especially when she’s on the campaign trail,” according to the New York Times.

Emmanuel Macron then asked her if she was ready for a new campaign. “Absolutely,” Jill Biden replied, according to the daily’s sources. The French President would then have raised a toast to Joe Biden.

A decision is expected shortly

The latter will soon have to announce whether he intends to run for the 2024 presidential election, while ex-president Donald Trump has already declared his candidacy.

His chief of staff, Ron Klain, told The Wall Street Journal Monday he expects the president to make a decision “soon after the holiday” and “that his decision would be to do it.”

Indeed, it seems to be an open secret for his political entourage. Back in October, Biden said in an interview with MSNBC that he “has not yet officially made the decision” to run again, but that he “intends” to run for a second term.

“I expect him to run,” Hakeem Jeffries, the January House leader for the Democrats, told Fox News on Sunday.

“From what I’ve heard from him, publicly and privately, he intends to run again,” Senator Chris Coons, a longtime friend of Joe Biden, told AFP.

The question of his health remains. Joe Biden is currently 80 years old and would be 86 at the end of a hypothetical second term, while some believe he is already too old to serve. However, in November 2021, the White House physician had stated in his published health report that he was “fit” to perform the duties of a president.
