In a lengthy revealing article, The Hollywood Reporter anticipated James Gunn’s plans for the future of the DCU, revealing a real Pandora’s box that appears destined to hit full force the Black Adam saga starring Dwayne Johnson.

The film grossed just 385 million worldwide against a budget that according to various sources, excluding marketing costs, could be between 190 and 230 million. As common practice, it is believed that a mainstream Hollywood production must earn three times its budget before turning a profit. By applying this rule Black Adam will be happy to break even, including calculation of ancillary income from home video and merchandising. If the film makes even a small profit, experts see very little chance of a sequel, since “new episodes” (as James Cameron teaches) usually have much higher production costs than their predecessors.
In short, the adventure of Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam may already be over: The Hollywood Reporter reports that James Gunn will announce his final plans at a meeting with Warner Bros. next week, so in the next few days new information should emerge.
