Discipline is God’s “divine command”

Following international condemnation of the first execution in Afghanistan since the Taliban took power, an Islamic Emirate spokesman, Bilal Karimi, assured that the execution, which took place last Wednesday in the western province of Farah, was carried out after many investigations and evaluations.

“The execution took place after much investigation in accordance with Islamic (law). All sides should not have any concerns about this and should respect it,” said the deputy spokesman of the Islamic Emirate.

“The supreme leader spoke and said that we have fought so hard, we have fought with the pagans for 20 years to guarantee an Islamic system and now that God has given it to us, God wants us to obey His divine commandments guarantee,” affirmed Mohammad Ismail Rahmani, senior member of Emirates Islamic.

The public execution of a man accused of murder and sentenced to death by the victim’s father drew widespread reactions from human rights organizations and other countries. “The UN is firmly opposed to the death penalty under all circumstances and urges the authorities to impose an immediate moratorium aimed at abolishing the death penalty,” the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) wrote on Twitter.

“The implementation of (hudud) is a Sharia command and its implementation is mandatory, but only when the situation warrants it,” said Aziz Maarij, a former diplomat.
