Moon Knight has truly proven to be Marvel Studios’ most bewildering and bewildering series yet, even rivaling WandaVision’s infamous mysteries. In the four episodes released so far, viewers have met both Marc Spector and Steven Grant, two personalities who live in the mind of a mentally ill man who has been enslaved by the Egyptian god Khonshu to carry out his bidding.

With the ending of the latest installment, fans were treated to the craziest twist yet as Marc Spector and all the previous characters of the series were either in or working for an asylum after being shot by Arthur Harrow. Things only got more confusing from there when Spector escaped, reunited personally with Steven Grant, and met the Egyptian god Taweret.

Between including almost every character, visual nods to previous episodes, and even images of familiar locations, Moon Knight had hinted at that twist from the start. But it seems like more than we thought, as fans have already spotted a secret appearance from the asylum in Episode 2.

Moon Knight revealed the Asylum in Episode 2

As Reddit user u/Flying_Moron discovered, Marvel Studios secretly revealed the asylum in Moon Knight Episode 2 in the sequence where Steven Grant was kidnapped and taken to Arthur Harrow’s cult base.

In the final moments of Part Four, Marc Spector was brought in to speak with Arthur Harrow, who was serving as the asylum’s doctor.

The mysterious storeroom resembles Arthur Harrow’s office in the asylum, with one obvious change in decor.

While the windows in the office are covered by curtains, they are identical, with the same tall pillar and beam structure in front. Additionally, the same vaulted alcove is visible on the right.

Since the building shown in Episode 2 was part of Arthur Harrow’s base, it’s not too shocking that the old building would also serve as a visual representation of his office at the asylum.

How did Moon Knight predict this twist?

Moon Knight’s twist reveal of the asylum brought together elements from every previous installment. Not only did it feature appearances from almost every character – including Donna, Harrow’s followers, and Crawley – but also countless visual references to locations and objects from the earlier episodes. Even the arrival of the Egyptian hippopotamus-like goddess Taweret was hinted at earlier in the series when Steven organized merchandise inspired by her at the museum.

Obviously, this revelation shouldn’t be taken to mean that everything viewers have seen up to this point has been nothing more than a madman’s delusions. Perhaps this is simply a near-death illusion in Marc Spector’s mind, or perhaps even represents his journey into the afterlife.

A fitting metaphor for Spector’s unfortunate mental state, the asylum offers Marc and Steven a clever way to meet face to face, something that wouldn’t normally be possible given they share one body. It also provided the latest tease of Jake Lockley’s imminent arrival, as Spector’s third personality was seen attempting to escape the sarcophagus.

Moon Knight proved excellent at anticipating what’s to come, and the asylum scene was a perfect way to tie everything that’s happened so far together. Who knows how the Disney+ limited series will follow up on this unexpected ending. But Moon Knight almost certainly has many more surprises in store, and chances are there are already plenty of hints of those surprises in the four episodes already released.

The first four episodes of Moon Knight are now streaming exclusively on Disney+.
