INDIANAPOLIS. Georgia defenseman Jordan Davis – his entire weight of 341 pounds – covered the 40-yard dash in 4.78 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine on Saturday night.
Let it soak in.
It was a spectacle worthy of the applause of the several thousand fans at Lucas Oil Stadium who watched defenders and midfielders practice on the pitch.
Davis, at 6ft 6⅜, may not have needed to run 40 yards often in an NFL game, but he ran in a way that few of his height ever did in the combine.

The time of 4.78 was the fastest for any player over 330 pounds in the combine since 2006 and is considered one of the fastest times for a player of this size in the history of the tournament.
Former Nebraska quarterback Khalil Davis ran a 4.75 40 at the 2020 Scouting Combine, which was the fastest 40 quarterback to weigh over 300 pounds since 2006.
Among clubs over 330, only former Auburn tackle Greg Robinson and former Memphis guard Dontari Poe broke the 5-second mark at 40 to Davis. Robinson ran 4.92 in 2014 at 332 lbs; Poe, at 346 pounds, clocked 4.98 seconds on the 2012 combine.
Poe also did 44 reps with a 225-pound bench press and jumped 34 inches vertically, a staggering number for a player of his size.
Davis, a potential first-round pick next month in the NFL Draft, was selected to the All-SEC First Team last season and started at least eight games for the Bulldogs in three of his four seasons. He also had one rushing touchdown last season.
