Pusha-T’s It’s Almost Dry has now graced the planet with its existence, giving fans exactly what they’ve been hungry for since DAYTONA released in 2018.
The artist formerly known as Kanye West not only contributes half to the production of the 12-track album, but also has two guest appearances on the tracks “Dreamin of the Past” and “Rock N Roll”. The latter, as previously reported, is being dubbed the “last song” fans will ever hear him with Ye by fellow actor Kid Cudi.
Lyrically, these features see Ye address issues of family diversity. For example, “Dreamin of the Past” — which takes its title from John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy” as an example of the Donny Hathaway version of the song — first contains a reflection by Ye about becoming “a minister” in his Prime before You move on to a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reference that finally ends with some family-centric considerations:
“I used to look at the Fresh Prince and pray the house was mine/could have bought it, but I don’t like the design of the kitchen”
“Born in the manger, a stranger’s son / When papa is not at home, the family is in danger”
In “Rock N Roll,” Ye revisits the subject, this time reflecting briefly on not wanting to argue when he picks up his kids:
“I didn’t come to pick up the kids to start a fight”
From there, Ye mentions being “over the edge” to the point where he doesn’t know “if I’m falling or flying”. He also references his late mother Donda:
“Love my mom, but sometimes daddy was right/Grab his hand, hold tight with all your strength”
Publicly, Ye has remained silent after it was reported that he was suspended from Instagram. In January, Ye mentioned Pete Davidson in the lyrics to his “Eazy” collaboration with The Game (and later featured a portrayal of the SNL star in the track’s video). Davidson, of course, is currently linked to Kim Kardashian.
Yes’s latest album, Donda 2, was released exclusively for Stem Player in February. It’s Almost Dry by Pusha-T is out now and also features Jay-Z, Lil Uzi Vert and more. Listen.
