SPÖ-UE MP congratulates award winners
Vienna (OTS/SK) – The President of the European Parliament will today present the renowned Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to the brave people of Ukraine in a solemn ceremony on behalf of the entire House. The award winners, represented by President Zelenskyy, elected officials and civil society representatives, were invited to the EU Parliament in Strasbourg. President Zelenskyy will attend the ceremony via video. 🇧🇷
SPÖ-EU MP Theresa Muigg, a member of the European Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, said: “The people of Ukraine deserve our full solidarity. They have been fighting a brutal war for a long time, and the situation in the country continues to deteriorate. deteriorate: a cold winter is imminent and critical infrastructure has been destroyed in most parts of the country. Despite this, Ukrainian citizens do not give up and fight not only for their motherland, but also for democracy, the rule of law and European values - values that were directly attacked by the Russian war of aggression. The people of Ukraine deserve not only our full solidarity and support, but also to receive this important award as a sign of our appreciation. This award is not only intended to have symbolic value, but for me it is also associated with the task of us as the EU being particularly involved in solving Russian war crimes and campaigning for the protection of people from Ukraine who fled the war.”
The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought is the European Union’s highest award for human rights efforts and is awarded annually by the European Parliament to individuals, groups and organizations who have made an outstanding contribution to protecting freedom of thought. (close) ls
