Blake Shelton explains why wife Gwen Stefani broke down in tears at ‘The Voice’ finale

Gwen Stefani felt all the emotions at Tuesday night’s The Voice finale and now her husband and fellow coach Blake Shelton gives us the reason for his wife’s tears — and no, it’s not because her team lost to the country’s crooner.

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Shelton, 46, looked back on the events of the night after his artist Bryce Leatherwood was crowned Season 22 Champion. And to top off an already emotional evening, the “God’s Country” singer was also reminded that it was his last time appearing on The Voice stage alongside Stefani as they won’t be returning to coaching next season becomes.

“I went to Gwen’s chair after the cameras went off and she’s literally sobbing over there,” he told the outlet. “She said, ‘This is our last time we’re going to do this together.'”

The couple, who met on the set of the singing competition show in 2014, will not have another season together as Shelton’s final run in season 23 will not include his wife.

“You’re gonna make me cry!” Shelton then told ET that he raised the issue before getting sentimental about his years on the hit NBC series.

“It will be the last time she and I do this together and it’s crazy to think about how the show changed my life,” he said. “I got so caught up in it I didn’t even think about it, and now you’re trying to get me emotional.”

The No Doubt alum also reflected on her time on the show in a tweet about Tuesday’s final, writing: “Ouch and that’s a conclusion!!! I am forever grateful to @NBCTheVoice, this show has changed my life in more ways than I can count. szn 22 forever!!!! gx #TheVoice.”

She also wrote, “I’m the happiest girl alive,” in response to a fan calling Stefani’s last show with Shelton “the end of an era.”

“Tonight is so bittersweet,” said the “Rich Girl” singer added.

Shelton will wrap up his final season on The Voice in the upcoming season 23, where he will be joined by an experienced presenter Kelly Clarksonalong with Chance of the rappers and Niall Horan.
