Israel: The Ministry of Health cannot find the agreement signed with Pfizer

In 2020, Israel received priority vaccines from the Pfizer laboratory in exchange for epidemiological data on its population.

The Israeli Ministry of Health claimed in court that it had not been able to locate the agreement signed with the pharmaceutical company Pfizer to share epidemiological information on coronavirus vaccines, even stating that it did not know whether the agreement had been signed.

In a petition currently pending in the Jerusalem District Court, the Ministry of Health has admitted that despite extensive investigations, the vaccination agreement signed with Pfizer has not been found. “We did not find a signed agreement,” prosecutors attorney Ahava Berman said on behalf of the Department of Health. “We searched every location, including the CEO’s office and the legal department.”

The agreement was published in January 2021, but many of its clauses were then hidden. Space was left in the published agreement for the signatures of then Health Ministry Director-General Hezi Levy and another Pfizer person whose names were blacked out – but their signatures were not there. The Department of Health’s response to the court alleges that the Department therefore does not know whether the agreement has been signed…or not.

In Israel, more than 6 million people have received doses of Pfizer’s vaccine.
