Last Black Friday, Alberto Daniel Cruz Hernández entered a Burlington store at 3895 West 20th Avenue in Haileah as if he were another customer but stole hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise, authorities said.
Hialeah Police Chief Sgt. Jose Torres said he was “in the city of Miami, he hasn’t even been to Hialeah, it seems like he knew we were looking for him and he got lost.”
The recording of the surveillance cameras enabled the police to determine the whereabouts of the alleged perpetrator. According to the police, he hid from the employees, perhaps because he did not imagine that several cameras were recording him.
“He does it shamelessly. He walks into the store calmly and relaxed, selects the items he wants, puts them in bags, in a sheet, wraps them up, and when he’s got it all, he walks out the door with no intention of paying,” said Police Sgt says Torres of Hialeah.
In total, the suspect would have stolen $4,984 worth of goods, mainly more than a hundred handbags and shoes.
When the person left the store, a car was waiting for them. They opened the door for him to continue with all the goods and there he escaped.
Cruz Hernández has a criminal record and was even on bail for a previous crime.
Hialeah Police Sgt. José Torres said: “We seized some of the goods but we don’t rule out he may have stolen from other stores as well and that is part of the investigation.”
He was denied this right during the trial and will remain in prison pending trial.
“We will not tolerate that. We will do everything we can to prevent these crimes,” the authorities said.
