Sophie Brown wows in a plunging black mini dress – after being accused of ‘allowing’ body shaming

Married At First Sight Britain’s Sophie Brown has been pictured for the first time since she was accused of ‘allowing’ body shaming comments towards Amy Christopher.

The 26-year-old reality star looked chic in a plunging black mini dress with a dazzling silver belt as she headed to Firefly restaurant in Manchester on Friday night.

Wrapped up in a fluffy brown jacket amid the sub-zero temperatures, she beamed all over her face as she strutted her way around town in black heels.

Just days ago, Sophie and her co-star Adrian Sanderson were accused of “allowing” body-shaming comments after they were left on their shared Instagram Live.

While not part of the video, the comments were aimed at Amy, who appeared in the 2021 series.

Now the pair have been criticized for not shutting down comments “immediately”, with claims they “should have known better”.

Marilyse Corrigan, who starred in the same season as Amy, immediately jumped to the defense of her castmates.

Marilyse wrote on her Instagram account: “Really sad to witness an Instagram live between two cast members last night while the comments @thatsportsspice (Amy) were body shaming / derogatory and the comments left!

“I would have thought the ‘MAFS family’ would know better by now. Shame on everyone involved.

“Amy is beautiful inside and out. She is a curvy, petite young woman who inspires many girls and shouldn’t and shouldn’t be ashamed of her body.”

Amy then reposted Marilyse’s story, thanking her and saying: “Really sad to be sent screen captures of the comments and lots of unsolicited opinions and comments about my shape, body and weight. I will address this properly at a later date.’

She then added in another story: “Sophie is a beautiful girl. I don’t have any negative feelings towards her as I hope she doesn’t have it for me.

“It’s a shame that another curvy girl who also received negative comments about height didn’t show solidarity and closed the comments immediately.”

Sophie and Adrian both responded publicly, saying they were unaware of the comments and condemning the fact that they were made.

Sophie said: “I’m not one to comment on situations that much, but when it comes to body image I will definitely be there. I was made aware of some comments that have been made about life and no one should have to go through that.

“I know exactly how it feels, which makes it worse. I was called chubby and fat throughout the show. Whatever someone’s intentions, there was a conversation about my body type on the show. I’ve had this backlash and I know how it feels.

“It’s a very painful thing to deal with and it’s a very sensitive subject. I do not condone behavior directed at anyone, anyone commenting on another person’s body online is appalling.

“Who is someone to comment on anyone’s greatness? It’s so difficult because there was a situation where someone said what their preferences are and now that’s used where people are compared and people’s heights are talked about. I never wanted to belong.

“I would never want something like that near or on my side, I like to have a positive platform. Body image is something very sensitive for many people and should not be talked about.”

Adrian also responded to his stories, saying: “I’m not exactly sure what was said, it was in the comments section on the live.

“I’ve asked for screen captures so I can see who said it and I can block them on Instagram. I wish Marilyse would have told me then so I could have closed it.

“I will never condone this hate on the internet and I hope we can continue to be kind in the future.”

Other Married at First Sight UK contestants also commented on the situation – but one in particular was from Jonathan Wileman, whom Sophie married on the show.

Web contacted representatives of Sophie Brown, Adrian Sanderson and Amy Christophers at the time for further comment.
