EU: Russian missile strikes ‘war crimes’

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has described Russia’s new powerful rocket attacks on Ukraine as barbaric war crimes. “These cruel and inhumane attacks are aimed at increasing human suffering,” Borrell said today.

The population, but also hospitals, emergency services and other essential services must lose the supply of electricity, heat and water. “These attacks constitute war crimes and are barbaric,” Borrell said.

Kyiv without electricity, water, heating

The EU’s chief diplomat pledged support for Ukraine. “The EU and its partners are stepping up efforts to provide the Ukrainian people with the necessary emergency assistance to restore and maintain electricity and heat supply,” he said. The European Union stands in solidarity with Ukrainians who have shown “admirable strength, courage and resilience” in the face of the Russian war.

With its heaviest rocket attacks in weeks, Russia today crippled large parts of Ukrainian power supplies. In the capital Kyiv, which has been the target of a particularly large number of rockets, electricity, water and heating failed today. There were also long power cuts in other regions.
