Breaking the pain barrier is nothing new for Tiger Woods. This time, however, his reasons are less competitive and more family-oriented.
The father of two has seen his son Charlie take a keen interest in the sport, which he dominates.
Woods is currently battling plantar fasciitis in his right foot while playing with Charlie at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club on Friday. The reason couldn’t be deeper.
As if the two don’t resemble each other enough, both have been spotted limping. Woods later revealed that his 13-year-old son recently suffered a sprained ankle.
In something both golf fans can enjoy, Tiger and Charlie Woods will compete together on Saturday
The Woods will tee off in the first round of the PNC Championship in Orlando on Saturday. If it means playing will delay his recovery from foot disease, so be it, says Woods.
“You know, I don’t really care,” Woods noted via ESPN at the idea of interfering with his recovery.
“I think it’s a lot more important to be with and by my son’s side, and [getting] Having the chance to have that experience with him is way better than having my foot creaking a bit.
Woods has been smiling at his doting 13-year-old son Charlie lately
It is only the third time both father and son have attended the Orlando event, having competed for the past two years.
The Woods finished seventh in 2020 and an agonizing two shots behind Jon Daly and his boy in 2021.
“Every time I get the opportunity to spend time with my son, it’s special,” Tiger said.
“And to do so in a competitive forum, the last few years have been magical and we look forward to doing it again.”
The pair will compete at the PNC Championships in Orlando, FL. for the third year in a row
The 15-time Major winner is still in rehab from a serious car accident he suffered outside of Los Angeles in February 2021.
Consequently, he will be able to use a cart to bypass the 36 holes. Despite the positive attitude of playing alongside Charlie, there are still difficulties for the golf legend, namely due to the fall.
“I’ll do anything,” Tiger said. “It’s frustrating because I have to do it every day and then on top of that it’s trying to sleep in the damn boot, it’s not fun. My left leg sometimes bleeds from the boot hitting it.
“It’s just annoying. It’s one of those things, hey, I’m grateful to have this link and it’s mine. It’s not a false limb; it belongs to me. And yes, there are some issues with it, but I still have it.
Charlie Woods already has fans drooling over his current game and long-term potential in golf
“It was a lot harder than people probably imagine,” Tiger said. “Some of the players who are very close to me know what I’ve been through and they keep encouraging me to step back a little bit.
“But that’s not really in my nature. My nature is trying to get better and I have. And work ethic has allowed me to participate and compete in three major championships this year.’
After the Florida bonding period, Woods will recover before returning sometime in the new year.
It looks like he’ll be busy in a mentoring role for Charlie in the meantime.
In a video posted to the PGA Tour’s social media channels on Friday, Woods could be seen filming his son on his iPhone before guiding him through his tee shot.
Woods got up from behind before, as you can imagine, going into detail, complimenting the backswing and offering words of encouragement to his seemingly perfectionist son.
