The Red Devils will take full advantage of the holidays after a 6-4 win at Center Georges-Vézina. Led by Pier-Olivier Roy, who scored three goals including two on the power play, Patrick Roy’s side used the same magic as Friday night to level a two-goal deficit in the second period.
“We had to be persistent because we complicated our lives for nothing. We never let go. In the second we increased the pace but the penalties broke our pace,” explained Remparts head coach Patrick Roy.
Although Quebec struggled on the power play with two goals in seven opportunities, Pier-Olivier Roy was able to fill the net for Marshall Nicholls.
“It feels good to have a hat-trick before Christmas. It’s easy to score with guys like Rochette and Bolduc,” said the concerned principal.
Another good adversity
When the two sides met for the second time in less than 24 hours, it was the Sags who scored early in the game. Thomas Bégin defeated Philippe Cloutier in a breakaway after intercepting Zachary Bolduc’s exit.
Although the latter was applauded for his three points in his team’s 5-3 win at the Videotron Center on Friday night, the one who spilled the ink for his comments to Team Canada junior was booed by Saguenéens supporters.
As with the game the day before, the same story happened between the two clubs. The Sags took a two-goal lead late in the first half thanks to a power play from Fabrice Fortin. Goals from Elliot Lavoie, Pier-Olivier Roy and Théo Rochette gave Quebec a 3-2 lead in the second period.
Marc-André Gaudet, who joined Sherbrooke Phoenix after the game, brought both teams back to first place. The Sags even regained control by scoring at 4-3 after an Andrei Loshko goal.
Regain trust
As pointed out by Pier-Oliver Roy, the Remparts experienced several dips over the weekend.
In the final 20 minutes, the Remparts managed to find those solutions, tallying three unanswered goals, including one from Bolduc in an empty goal to sign the win.
Gaudet packs his bags
With his explosive first half of the season in the Chicoutimi Saguenéens jersey, Marc-André Gaudet interested several teams as the opening of the trade market in the QMJHL drew near.
The Sags used the defender’s current stat to send him to the Sherbrooke Phoenix. Sags head coach Yanick Jean confirmed the deal Saturday night after his team lost to the mighty Remparts.
“At the end of the season we couldn’t lose such a big element for ourselves and kept it conscious of its value,” Jean said after Saturday afternoon’s game. Official details of the exchange will be announced in the coming days.
The 19-year-old Gaudet will thus join a team aiming for great success.
“I can’t wait to join Sherbrooke, a team that gives it their all and rivals big teams. The guys I met here will be friends forever,” he said. The former Acadie Bathurst titan will cement an already fairly complete core of defenders at the Phoenix with the likes of Tyson Hinds, David Spacek, Joe Fleming, Kaylen Gauthier etc.
In the plans of the blues
The St. Louis Blues contender not only left Chicoutimi on Saturday but also signed a three-year deal with the organization.
“I’ve known for about two weeks that the Blues are interested in signing me,” admitted the Saint-Ignace, New Brunswick native. I could do it with my family and my agent. »
According to Yanick Jean, Gaudet will no longer be present at the Courteau circuit in 2023-2024.
“We’ve spoken to St. Louis for the past few weeks and the team said they were telling the truth. The Blues were very honest. One thing is certain, if Marc-André had stayed in the league at 20, we would have kept him,” he revealed.
So far this season, Gaudet has 26 points, including nine goals, in 31 games. He was selected by the Blues in the fifth round (152nd overall) of the 2022 draft.
The next meeting in Quebec will be held in Baie-Comeau on December 28th.
