The 87-year-old actor, who has long suffered from aphasia and senile dementia, died in the hospice where he was hospitalized for two weeks: “No one saved him,” Francesca Della Valle says. The moving memory of his brother Salvo
It is a silent farewell to Lando Buzzanca, accompanied by the affection of his brother Salvo and his son Massimiliano (the other son, Marco, is from Bangkok) in the room of theHospice Villa Speranza where he spent his last days. Dumb as he was now, afflicted by aphasia and senile dementia, which for a time and more and more often made him express himself only through chatter and some gesture, from which it was not always possible to detect consciousness. Can’t even walk But it’s also a loud farewell87-year-old actor for the poisons that have already accompanied the last few weeks and exploded again yesterday with the accusations of his partner Francesca Della Valle: «As expected, nobody saved him. The truth will come out.”
«I would have accompanied my brother to heaven – says Salvo bitterly – I would have given anything to let him take one last ride in the car to see the life he loved so much. Everything was ready at home to welcome him, after being put back on track two and a half years ago at the Santa Lucia Clinic, he had to stay in a retirement home for a short time, but each time a problem arose that hospitalization extended. The fall, difficulty swallowing… impossible to transfer safely. For me he was a second father, I met him in Rome when I was 9 years old (they have a difference of 20, Salvo is the seventh of eight children, the last of Ettore and Irene, editor’s note .) and he intimidated me I, we really became brothers at 24, it was he who, in 1972 chatting in his Maserati, planted the seeds of journalism in me. I was supposed to visit him yesterday and I regret not saying goodbye one last time. “Gigi”, as we called him in the family (from Gerlando, editor’s note), is Cinema Paradiso’s child who grows up with the dream of becoming an actor. He was already able to recite Shakespeare at the age of six. I’m sure he just wished he’d been left alone in his final days“, he added. The lead relates to the alleged negligence, if not the actual duty, that Buzzanca has allegedly been sentenced to in recent times, as overshadowed by Della Valle.
What aContributions between the Buzzanca family and the woman They weren’t idyllic, that had been clear for some time. That is, since when the actor and the journalist were supposed to get married, but the “heirs” were against it. “Father suffers from senile dementia, he does not remember the name of our mother, the woman with whom he shared his whole life – Massimiliano had explained some time ago – we want to be sure that there is nothing else behind this story.” From there and the ensuing proceedings, the administered settlement was triggered for Lando Buzzanca, which was therefore assisted by a support administrator and a guardianship judge. The same ones who decided a year ago to move him to an Rsa (Health Care Residence). The rest is recent history. It is November 8th when Lando falls out of his wheelchair in the nursing home and comes urgently transferred to the Gemelli Polyclinic. And here the story becomes public, after the social denunciation of his self-appointed medical officer (but family members swear they never saw him) Fulvio Tomaselli: «Today he is a shrunken man, he will weigh yes and no 50 kilos and has sores decubitus. In Rsa they reduced him to a skeleton ». Words repeated by Francesca Della Valle: “Finally they take care of him in the hospital. Lando wants to go home, I hope that the administrator and guardianship judge grants his wish.” Instead, after his hospitalization on December 1, Buzzanca was transferred to the hospice where he died yesterday.
«Why – Francesca asks herself – if he wasn’t terminally ill?». His son Massimiliano’s response was punctual. “He’s there, but his mind is gone. I would pay for him to recognize me.” There he should spend a period of rehabilitation. Wednesday at 12 noon the funeral at the Church of the Artists in Rome, then he will be cremated and the ashes taken to the house of his son Massimiliano.
