FUJIMORI AND CASTILLO IN THE SAME PRISON

PERULIMA, DEC 18 2022 (Ane Agency)._ As former President Pedro Castillo was transferred to the same prison where former President Alberto Fujimori was serving a sentence, political chaos and violence swept across Peru.

This Friday, the death toll in clashes between Castillo supporters and public power totaled 22 victims, without the state of emergency being able to neutralize protests that demanded the resignation of President Dina Boluarte and parliamentarians to relieve the early general Choose. . For its part, the plenary session of Congress rejected a project to bring forward the general elections for December 2023, excluding the interim president’s proposals.

The project proposed shortening the mandates of Boluarte and the congressmen, whose term was in principle due to end in July 2026. The special transitional provisions stated that “the President-in-Office” would call a general election in December 2023 and complete her term on April 30, 2024.” The current members of Congress would also complete their terms on April 28, 2024.

The President claimed that she was “an interim government” and that she made the decision not to end her term by interpreting “the will of the citizens in the broadest sense”.

Castillo, removed by Congress after ordering the dissolution of Parliament, announced the formation of an emergency executive to rule by decree, convene a constituent assembly and reorganize the judicial system.

On the other hand, Castillo was transferred to Bardadillo Prison where Fujimori is being held. They must comply with an 18-month preventive detention ordered by the judiciary.
