Toponymy: City of Quebec considers homage to Karim Ouellet

Late singer Karim Ouellet could be honored in Quebec as the city considers the possibility of renaming a site in his memory.

This is a proposal that Limoilou City Councilor Jackie Smith submitted to the Parish Council on December 5 and was approved by the Executive Committee.

Ms. Smith asked to “recognize the importance that Karim Ouellet has for Quebec City and Quebec culture and to ask the Toponymy Committee to name a space honoring artist Karim Ouellet in the La Cité-Limoilou neighborhood in 2023 analyze “.

Tragic death

Karim Ouellet is originally from Senegal and has lived in Quebec since 2002. A singer-songwriter dear to Quebecers, he has received multiple awards from ADISQ and Junos and has won numerous awards.

He was found dead in his Saint-Roch studio in January 2022, but his death was dated November 2021, sending shockwaves through the populace and the artistic community. He was only 36 years old.
