Andrew “Hamburglar” Hammond is retiring

Former Ottawa Senators goaltender Andrew Hammond has made the decision to hang up his pads.

He made the announcement via his Twitter account, sharing a message with a brief recap of his career.

“My career has been a series of incredible and unexpected memories. I’ve met the best people I know over those years and I can say without a doubt that I’ve had the best job in the world,” wrote the nickname “Hamburglar.”

The 34-year-old said an ankle injury sustained during his brief four-game stint with the Montreal Canadiens in 2021-22 strained his decision.

“I injured my ankle while in Montreal and unfortunately I won’t be able to fully recover,” he said.

Hammond therefore ends his National League career with 31 wins, 20 losses and seven overtime losses in 67 games. He will also play with the Colorado Avalanche and the New Jersey Devils.
