An adopted Rimouskier is on the list of 100 influential women around the world who are working in artificial intelligence in an ethical way.
Emily Charry Tissier is a biologist and co-founder of Whale Seeker.
The company uses artificial intelligence to save marine mammals.
After months of trying to find data, the scientist founded Whale Seeker with her husband.
Their goal is to use artificial intelligence in an ethical way to make surveillance of mammals easier.
“We really try to be very strict in how we create our database, algorithm and who we choose to work with. We don’t want our solutions to be used to circumvent environmental laws,” explains Emily Charry Tissier.
She was included in the Woman in AI Ethics list for this research. A site that helps highlight women working in artificial intelligence, but in an ethical way. She ranks 52nd out of 100 women from around the world.
‘We can’t just create tools without thinking about how we might use them later or how they might be used by other people,’ added the scientist.
According to Emily Charry Tissier, there are still too few women in this field, so it’s important to demystify this industry.
“By shining a light on women doing interesting things, we will inspire the next generation.”
