Argentina’s Lionel Messi today became the first player in FIFA World Cup history to score in the group stage, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final at the same edition of a World Cup. The only one to have done it before was the Hungarian Sarosi in 1938.
The last World Cup duel between Argentina and France was at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, in that round of 16 the French team won 4: 3 and thus Mbappé’s first major performance in the national team tournament par excellence. The PSG player signed a brace accompanied by Griezmann and Pavard. Of Argentina’s three goalscorers on June 30, only Di María is still with the national team. (Text: PL)(Photo: FIFA)
