(ANSA) — ROME, DECEMBER 19 — The Canadian government has announced the start of a trial over the seizure of $26 million in sanctioned assets from a company owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich. That’s what we read on the Ottawa government website.
While several Western allies have confiscated yachts, oil and gas companies and other assets from people close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, this is the first time Canada has done so. Ottawa said it will ask the court to prosecute Abramovich’s Granite Capital Holdings and use the proceeds to help rebuild Ukraine. (HAND).
