Tries to abuse a shop assistant but is arrested. The examining magistrate: free, but with an obligation to sign on the ward

The young woman was confronted in the store’s warehouse by the man armed with his pants down and an anchor bolt. The victim flees on the escalator

In the basement of the Termini train station, he tried to rape a saleswoman and threatened her with an anchor bolt from the train convoys. The 24-year-old managed to escape and during the escape she met the Carabinieri, who arrested the alleged rapist. The attempted sexual assault allegedly happened late Saturday afternoon and Daniel Sathasivam, 35, Italian but of Sri Lankan-born parents, ended up handcuffed.

Arranged yesterday at the end of the very direct judge the obligation to report twice a day to the Termini police station. However, the judge did not confirm the detention as he considered there was no flagrante delicto in the removal of the handcuffs. The judge also ruled the release of Sathasivam and justified the decision with the suspect’s clean criminal record. However, he recognized the serious indications of guilt, so he justified the obligation to sign. Here is the chronicle of what would have happened on December 17 last year. Around five o’clock in the afternoon the saleswoman goes to the warehouse to get goods for the shop where she has been working for several weeks. While moving packages he is confronted by Sathasivam.

The man is naked from the waist down, his pants all the way down. The young woman is afraid. He mentions a scream but stops immediately. In fact, the suspect pulls out an anchor bolt several inches long and threatens her with it. The saleswoman initially pretends to give up, and as soon as she realizes that Sathasivam has lost his guard, she runs off. He takes the escalator back to the upper floor, where he encounters a Carabinieri patrol. who sees her upset. They stop her, ask her why she is so nervous and while she tells what happened to her, Sathasivam appears.

The 35-year-old denies the approach. In fact, he defends himself and explains that his pants are down because he needs to pee. Unconvincing words for the Carabinieri who arrest him. Yesterday, Sathasivam – defended by attorneys Andrea Manasse and Ilaria Argentini – defended himself in the courtroom by proposing the same reasoning, but with an addition: “I always carry the bolt with me because the station is full of dangerous people.” The trial begins on Thursday, in which Shatasivam must decide whether to request the summary or opt for the due process.
