Baseball player Juan Sebastián Contreras comes to the United States

Cuban baseball player Juan Sebastián Contreras, Los Toros de Camagüey’s best young pitcher, has arrived in the United States in the last few hours after traveling for two weeks through Central America.

The Cuban made a post on his social network Twitter alluding to his arrival.

It was revealed in sports media that the 23-year-old Cuban baseball player was held at the US border over the weekend and later released in Arizona state.

Juan Sebastián Contreras then traveled to Florida to meet his family.

The Cuban was a major baseball player from the Camaguey Province and made his debut with Los Toros in the LIX National Baseball Series, participating in four editions of the tournament.

The baseball player joins the list of athletes fleeing the island to find better opportunities and professional advancement, since they don’t have those opportunities in Cuba.

Last February, the week of 19-24, Juan Sebastián Contreras was voted the Most Valuable Player of the Week in the LXI National Baseball Series with 41,409 votes from the fans, 17 from the trade press and 13 from the National Commission.

Receiver Alfredo Fadraga, whom the regime had suspended from sport since July for trying to leave the national team abroad, recently left Cuba.

It is important to mention that in 2022 more than 100 athletes fled the island; including baseball pros Anthony Santa Cruz, Christian Sáez, Luis Valdés, Yeison Acosta, Yadier Batista, Earle Rafael Zulueta, Johan Rodríguez, Yorelquis Hernández, Danell Figueroa, Luis Miguel Rives, Maykol Valdivia Brown, Alain López, Yeison Rodríguez, Miguel Flores , Yan Carlos Valle, Alex Santiago Acosta and Jonathan Echavarria.
