New adaptation of the children’s classic The Witches by Roald Dahl based on the 1990 film directed by Nicolas Roeg. The setting takes us to the end of 1967, when a young man (newcomer Jahzir Kadeem Bruno, TV’s “Atlanta”), orphaned, is forced to move to Demopolis, a small country town in Alabama. Here he lives with his grandmother (Octavia Spencer), with whom he has an excellent relationship. By chance, the two meet a group of elegant-looking women and, thanks to Nona’s ability to read some clues, discover that they are in fact witches. To protect her grandson, the grandmother decides to spend a few days in a nearby seaside resort. Apparently they don’t know that the place is the same one chosen by the Witch Chief (Anne Hathaway) to gather with her colleagues from different parts of the world for a gathering. The purpose of the conference is to implement a diabolical plan…
The screenplay, based on the book by Roald Dahl (over 300 million copies sold, translated into 41 different languages ​​worldwide) is by Robert Zemeckis and Kenya Barris (the “black” TV series “Shaft”) and the Oscar for Guillermo del Toro (“The Shape of Water”). The film is self-produced by Zemeckis, along with Jack Rapke, del Toro, Alfonso Cuaron and Luke Kelly; Jacqueline Levine, Marianne Jenkins, Michael Siegel, Gideon Simeloff and Cate Adams will executive produce.
