Hugh Jackman Confirms Big Deadpool 3 Fan Theory

Spoiler Alert: This article may contain spoilers for a key element of Deadpool 3.

Hugh Jackman confirmed in a new interview that Deadpool 3 won’t explore the events of 2017’s Logan thanks to Marvel’s timing flexibility, hinting at the possibility that time travel will play a key role in the new film.

“It’s all because of this device that they have in the Marvel world to move through timelines,” Jackman told SiriusXM. “Now we can go back because it’s science. So I don’t have to mess with the Logan timeline, which was important to me. And I’m probably thinking of the fans too.”

Jackman is gearing up to return as Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynolds’ mercenary with a mouth in Deadpool 3, which is slated to hit theaters in November 2024. The move to bring Jackman back came as a surprise to most fans due to the events of Logan. In this film, directed by James Mangold, Jackman’s Wolverine met a horrific end, impaled in a tree and unable to heal due to adamantium poisoning. The farewell to the acclaimed actor was as perfect as it gets, but Jackman still isn’t ready to hang up his claws.

How to watch the Wolverine movies in (chronological) order

The X-Men movie timeline is a complete mess, so here's the best guideline for seeing Wolverine's story in order.

Back in September, Reynolds revealed in a social media post that Jackman would indeed return as a character, fulfilling a crossover that the two actors had had in mind for some time (and no, X-Men Origins: Wolverine doesn’t count ). Also Reynolds clarified that whatever happens in Deadpool 3 will not negate the events of Logan.

“Logan is set in 2029,” he explained. “Completely different thing. Logan died in “Logan”. Do not touch.”

Not much is known about Deadpool 3 aside from Jackman’s appearance, but the new film will surely mark a change in the MCU. It seems the film will likely see a version of Wolverine that fans have never met before; whether that means a Wolverine from another universe or a Wolverine before his death in 2029 remains to be seen. Either way, it’s possible that some time-traveling hijinks will follow.

Deadpool 3 is set to start production in May 2023.
