Convoy of Freedom 2.0: The demonstrators are not allowed to go to Ottawa

The famous “Freedom 2.0 Convoy” may not take place in Ottawa, one of the organizers of the Quebec branch of the movement suggested last Saturday.

In a video posted to Facebook, Jonathan Mongrain, one of the administrators of the main French-language Facebook page dedicated to the Freedom Convoy, explained why the Quebec section of the movement decided not to take part in the 2023 demonstration.

“They told us at a recent meeting that they weren’t going to Ottawa. They decided to do this elsewhere,” he said, adding that he intends to have Canada Unity, the organizer of the event, make their own announcement on the matter.

Referring to legal pitfalls, he explained that a demonstration in Ottawa would not be possible if the one announced by James Bauder at the end of November was cancelled.

“The freedom convoys decided to distance themselves from Canada Unity because the events weren’t clear and we also went more to Ottawa,” he said, before adding that the demonstrations in Quebec could be organized though.

On Monday, Ottawa’s new police chief, Eric Stubbs, mentioned that these troops were ready to face the return of the “Freedom Convoy” protesters next February.

It is worth remembering that in early 2022, many protesters from the Freedom Convoy paralyzed the streets of the federal capital’s downtown for more than a month, negatively affecting merchants and local residents.
