In the middle of the holiday season, the staff at the SPA Mauricie have to go back to work to feed and care for the animals that are looking for a family… Unless they are adopted before Christmas.
Less than a week until Christmas, almost all timeslots of the SPA Mauricie are reserved for adoptions. About fifty cats are put up for adoption, which is normal. However, around 30 dogs are also looking for a family, more than usual.
Holidays and summer vacation are busy times for adoption. “It’s a good time to bring a new animal into the home because we are present. You have to be careful when you have a new animal and you receive it at home. Our advisors can offer advice to families so as not to stress the animal,” explains SPA Mauricie Deputy Director Sarah-Lise Hamel.
The organization is actively looking for host families, people willing to make a difference. These welcome cats for a temporary period to provide them with a quiet environment. We are talking about operated cats or a cat and her kittens. “It’s a feeling of satisfaction knowing I’ve helped a little creature,” explains Sylvie Blais, a volunteer.
The SPA Mauricie closes its doors for the holidays. The citizen service is open on December 28th, 29th and 30th. However, there will always be staff on site to feed and care for the animals. If you find a stray animal, you can always call SPA Mauricie. He will take your call and a patrol officer can come to you and pick up the animal.
The SPA Mauricie ends 2022 with good news, the number of releases has decreased compared to the previous year and as many animals have been adopted.
