In China, a video showing two women cleaning the windows of a building more than 20 meters high without safety equipment caused an uproar. The images illustrate the country’s lack of protection for workers, reports the South China Morning Post.
The scene took place in Songyuan, a city in Jilin Province. A neighbor who saw these two women at work decided to pull out his cell phone to film the dangerousness of the action.

Fatal fall earlier this year
The two workers are standing on a window sill in the building, without protective belts, but with masks and aprons. One has one foot inside the building and another outside, while the second is entirely outside, heavily exposed to a possible fall that would be fatal.
The broadcast of this video, seen by millions of people, caused many reactions in China. On social media, some complained that these two women’s lives were “cheaper than the security equipment, which costs only a few tens of yuan.” Others recalled that the employer is responsible in the event of a fall, as was the case in another Chinese region in January 2022. A man fell from the twelfth floor while cleaning windows.
