Colombian coffee aims to further conquer the Nordic market

According to the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia (FNC), buyers from Finland, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Sweden are taking part in the Helsinki Coffee Festival, the most important professional gathering in Northern Europe, which will welcome more than 10,000 visitors this year in the Finnish capital.

At this meeting, Colombia will have a stand where it will present its coffee to professionals and visitors and where the barista Diego Campos, world champion in Milan last year, will be present.

In addition to the preparation and tasting of Colombian coffee, the country will participate in the festival’s academic agenda.

“We are sure that this participation (…) will mean important opportunities for Colombia in the Nordic countries, which are the main consumers of coffee per capita worldwide and have increased their purchases of Colombian grains,” declared Flavia Santoro, President of ProColombia .

FNC Director General Roberto Vélez pointed out that the presence of the grain and the Colombian brand during the Helsinki Coffee Festival is “strategic to continue captivating the taste buds of Finnish consumers”.

According to statistics from the International Coffee Organization, Finland is the world’s largest coffee consumer at 11.9 kilograms per capita, followed by Norway at 9.8, Iceland at 8.9 and Denmark at 8.6 kilograms.

Figures from the National Administrative Department of Statistics show that Colombia exported $112.1 million in coffee to the Nordic countries in 2021, up 90,000 compared to 2020 and up 21 percent from 2019.

Between last January and February, exports totaled 24.8 million, up 22 percent from the same period in 2021, mainly due to higher purchases from Finland and Sweden.
