BREAKING Donald Trump was involved in a criminal “multiple conspiracy” to overthrow the 2020 election, the Jan. 6 committee says in its final report
- The January 6 committee released its report just before 10 p.m. Thursday
The final report of the Jan. 6 House of Representatives committee accused Donald Trump of a criminal, “multipartite conspiracy” to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and did nothing to prevent his supporters from searching the US Capitol.
Panel members released their 845-page report Thursday night after interviewing more than 1,000 witnesses
“The central cause of January 6 was one man, former President Donald Trump, who was followed by many others,” the report said. “None of the events of January 6th would have happened without him.”
Earlier this week, they referred four criminal complaints to the Justice Department charging the former president with insurgency, conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstructing an act of Congress.
The attack on the Capitol came after President Donald Trump made repeated false claims that the 2020 election had been stolen from him and after delivering a fiery speech on Jan. 6, 2021, on the Ellipse behind the White House
The January 6 committee interviewed more than 1,000 witnesses, conducted 10 hearings and obtained millions of pages of documents as it investigated the deadly riot
In a foreword, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi thanked the committee for its efforts.
“As the Special Committee completes its work, its words must be a trumpet call to all Americans: to be vigilant in protecting our democracy and to give our voice only to those who are dutifully working in their defense of our Constitution,” she said.
