Venezuelan president appoints new ambassador to Brazil

CARACAS, Dec. 22 (Xinhua). Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro today announced the appointment of Manuel Vicente Vadell as the South American country’s new Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil following the resumption of diplomatic relations.

Maduro, after meeting Manuel Vicente Vadell, reported that he had decided to “appoint him as Venezuela’s new ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil, effective January 1, 2023.”

The President made the announcement on Thursday evening via his Twitter account, where he posted a photo with the diplomat.

Vadell was previously Consul General of Venezuela in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The announcement comes after Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva’s October 30 victory as Brazil’s president and the impending restoration of ties between the two nations.

Recently, future Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said at a press conference that President-elect Lula had instructed him to resume ties with the Caribbean country.

“We will do it on January 1st by sending an executive director to reopen the embassy and appoint an ambassador later,” Vieira reported.
