The new face of war in an unprecedented video. A Russian drone filmed Ukrainian missiles trying to shoot them down. The robotic plane’s cameras film the white trails of the surface-to-air bombs. One of the missiles flies away from the target; the other explodes nearby without damaging it: the remote-controlled aircraft continues its reconnaissance. Anti-aircraft systems don’t have an easy time hitting drones: slow as they are, they have small piston engines that evade the missile’s infrared sensors. They are also made of fiberglass or plastic, making it difficult for radar to detect them. Anti-aircraft defense often fires multi-million dollar bombs in vain, unable to stop planes at a cost a hundred times less.
