French serial killer Charles Sobhraj, released after nearly 20 years in prison in Nepal, has returned to France. He arrived at Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle airport in Paris this morning, an AFP reporter reported. On the plane, he told the journalist accompanying him that he was “innocent”.
The 78-year-old man, portrayed in the Netflix series “The Snake”, was released yesterday from prison in Nepal on health grounds. The Supreme Court also ordered his deportation to France.
Sobhraj killed dozens of people in Asia in the 1970s. He is linked to more than 20 murders. He has been imprisoned in Nepal since 2003 for the murder of two American tourists. Prior to that, he had already spent two decades in indigenous custody.
