According to our information, this is Ronald Lamothe, 52 years old. The man was arrested shortly after he allegedly stabbed Marc-André Guy, a person he knew, to death on Friday night.
Ronald Lamothe has a long criminal record and has been accused of various crimes dozens of times since 1989.
In the past year alone, he has been charged five times with assault, dangerously carrying a weapon, two counts of assault and criminal harassment.
Note that he has been acquitted of all of these recent charges, the last of which dates back to last summer.
The victim dies
On Friday, Ronald Lamothe reportedly assaulted Marc-André Guy, a 49-year-old man who eventually died in hospital from his injuries.
The latter was also known to the police community. Since 1999 he had been charged with criminal offenses about twenty times. In recent years, he has been tried several times for violating his probation conditions. Since 2014 he had also been convicted of robbery, assault and obstruction of the work of a peace officer.
Mr Guy was currently on trial for a parole violation and was due to return to court in January 2023.
For several years, Mr. Guy’s address was that of the Grand Motel Saint-Hubert, located on Sir-Wilfrid-Laurier Boulevard near the intersection of Routes 112 and 116.
Here he was probably attacked around 9:10 p.m. on Friday evening.
Ronald Lamothe was due to appear on Saturday afternoon and could face murder charges.
The Longueuil Agglomeration Police Department says their investigators are still trying to determine the causes of the incident and will soon meet a witness.
